From Call to Conviction:
Telecommunicators Against Human Trafficking
Call to Conviction is an intermediate-level course designed to equip telecommunicators with the skills needed to effectively assist a human trafficking victim who calls 911. Building on a foundational understanding of human trafficking, this course focuses on enhancing knowledge about the specific questions to ask and how to approach each situation with a victim-centered, trauma-informed mindset. Through a combination of lecture and collaborative group work, the training emphasizes the critical role that dispatchers from fire, EMS, and law enforcement play in interacting with trafficking victims, ensuring a coordinated and compassionate response across all emergency services.
Objectives/Reason to Take the Course:
- Enhance the ability to identify human trafficking indicators during phone interactions with victims, witnesses, or third-party callers. 
- Understand the various forms of human trafficking, including labor and sex trafficking, to better recognize complex scenarios. 
- Clarify the telecommunicator's role in human trafficking cases, including responsibilities in initial response and ongoing communication. 
- Strengthen documentation and communication skills to ensure accurate, legally sound records and proper transfer of information to responding agencies. 
- Learn appropriate response protocols to improve coordination with law enforcement, victim services, and human trafficking task forces. 
- Gain confidence in handling sensitive and high-stakes calls involving potential human trafficking victims. 
- Improve public safety outcomes by being a critical first point of contact in identifying and intervening in trafficking situations.
