Matthew Johnson’s lifelong passion for Public Safety is evident through his impressive career spanning nearly two decades. As a third-generation law enforcement officer, Matt has accumulated a wealth of experience across multiple disciplines, including Police, Fire, Telecommunications, and Emergency Medical Services.
Matt’s instructional skills are well-regarded, having taught at Police Academies, colleges, FBI Field Offices, high schools, and various Police, Fire, and EMS organizations. He is a sought-after consultant for the design and functionality of public safety computer-aided dispatch systems and records management systems. His training has impacted thousands of Law Enforcement Officers, Emergency Medical Technicians, Firefighters, and Telecommunicators.
In addition to his public safety career, Matt is a veteran of the United States Air Force and the United States Army. As a Commissioned Officer and rotary-wing aviator with the U.S. Army Reserve, he brings extensive leadership experience and the ability to manage challenging situations effectively.
Matt played a crucial role in the rollout of a new state-wide CAD system, training thousands of public safety professionals. He has been involved in high-stakes situations including multiple officer-involved shootings and critical incidents requiring the use of force. His investigative experience includes major cases such as arson, rape, severe assault, and death. Matt has witnessed firsthand the critical nature of emergency responses—from cutting people out of burning buildings as a firefighter to performing life-saving measures as an EMT.
His diverse career includes roles such as State Trooper, Police Officer, Narcotics Detective, Police Health and Safety Officer, Field Training Officer, and Guest Instructor at the Kentucky State Police Academy. Matt's expertise extends to fire services, where he has served as a Fire Instructor, Company Officer, Swift Water Rescue Technician, Ice Water Rescue Technician, and Emergency Medical Technician. His comprehensive understanding of public safety is further enhanced by his experience as a Communications Training Officer.
His academic credentials include a Bachelor of Public Administration from Upper Iowa University and a Master of Science in Leadership from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. Matt’s lifelong dedication to public safety and his extensive practical experience make him a distinguished leader and educator in the field.
